Sunset over a lake in Darlana, Sweden

Welcome to my website. I’m not a big fan of talking about myself, so this is an exercise in self-improvement/flagellation.

Here, you can find my CV and a summary of my teaching experience so far, and links to my various research profiles. You can also find what may be an interesting, or slightly mortifying collection of writing, the vast majority of which I can assure you, is mine. I don’t think many others would lay claim to it. And the pictures. They’re mine too.

About me

I’m currently a JSPS funded postdoctoral research fellow, investigating the mechanisms and maintenance factors for pathological social withdrawal. In other words, I’d quite like to know what makes people socially withdraw and what keeps them withdrawn. Is it just a personal choice? Possibly some cognitive/information processing bias? Or perhaps some kind of conflict (perceived or real) with the structure of society? I also am involved in researching how Stoicism, as a philosophy, may help with wellbeing, mental health and resilience. Broadly then, I’m interested in psychological, neural and social mechanisms underlying mental health and wellbeing. Away from the lab, I’m an advocate for Open Science, and try to promote those practices wherever I go.

Outside of academia, you’ll find me attempting to play a consistent round of golf, making some questionable tackles whilst playing football, baking a large number of pastries as a form of therapy, or becoming quite emotionally involved in a video game, book or TV show. You might even see the result of that involvement in the form of a blog post. Whether that hobby sticks remains to be seen.
